Risk Management

MB Private Client Group believes risk management is quite possibly the single most important tenant of investing. However, risk, should not be thought of as negative term. Risk is necessary and inseparable from investments and returns. Unfortunately, inadequate risk management can result in severely negative consequences when it comes to an individual or family’s wealth.

We believe our experience in markets, much of which was spent working on Wall Street trading desks, makes us uniquely positioned to help our clients manage risk. Given our belief that the most important variable to growing wealth is preserving wealth, we are intently focused on making sure our clients are taking the proper risk at the right time.

We believe planning starts with a deep appreciation and understanding of the quantitative and qualitative factors that may impact one’s estate. Changes in tax code, new financial concerns, and new life pressures increase the need for objective financial guidance. Nothing concerns us more than making sure we can help our clients navigate unexpected life changes while still ensuring they reach their best financial self.

In order to do this we must ask relevant and penetrating questions during the planning process. This helps us understand our clients’ most pressing concerns and anxieties. Financial planning gives our team and our clients a roadmap to attain their goals.

Having had the honor to work with many business owners around the time of the sale of a business, we understand how much more powerful the end result can be when collaboration starts early. We recognize income replacement is often the biggest concern post the sale of a business. MB Private Client Group is very experienced in working with clients to come up with tax efficient ways to help with that income stream.

Other life changing liquidity events we focus on include inheritance, stock options and divorce. Each one of these events requires smart planning and coordination with all the parties involved in the event. We pride ourselves in having great working relationships with other professionals involved such as attorneys, accountants, and bankers.

Investment Management

Our focus on tactically managing risk while still striving to achieve the best returns, leads us to partner with some of the world’s best asset managers.  The MB Private Client Group, along with the Oppenheimer Asset Management Due Diligence team, rigorously evaluates potential asset managers. We only partner with managers that have strict risk criteria, and have been able to demonstrate best in class risk adjusted returns over time. We also have a strong preference to partner with Investment Managers who have much of their personal assets invested in their portfolios.

Unfortunately, a great deal of wealth is lost as it passes from generation to generation. We do our very best to prevent that from happening with our clients. Our practice is built to help provide our clients and their heirs with investment management continuity.

We recognize there are often differences in the lifestyles and goals from one generation to the other. However, that does not change the need to understand, preferably early, the basics of investing. Our educational focus includes, but is not limited to, the following: individual stock investing, risk, time horizon, and asset class diversification.  We offer individual teach-ins and do group seminars. We will plan with heirs individually or as a family.

Lastly, we adjust our communication process to fit our client preferences. As such, we use virtual meetings, and embrace all other forms of digital communication. For those who do not care for current technology, we adapt to whatever makes our clients more comfortable.
